Roohi has surprised the trade at the box-office as the film has collected Rs. 2.15 crore plus on Thursday, as against the general norm of 1.25 to 1.50 crore day one. The day one figure can also touch the 2.50 crore mark, however, it all depends on how well the mass belts fare. More than 50% of the collections have come from the national multiplex chains, whereas UP and Bihar were the top performing markets in the mass belts.
The horror comedy as a genre has a loyal audience in the mass belts, and that audience has also come on board Roohi on day one, starving for entertainment. The film starring Janhvi Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao and Varun Sharma is the first major release in the pandemic and has sent a surprise wave to the industry, and the encouraging footfalls on day one should motivate many others to come ahead with release.
Produced by Dinesh Vijan and Jio Studios, Roohi that released on nearly 2500 plus screens has received mixed reviews. While a steady trend is not really expected from the film, the opening has given out a statement that the audience is ready to step out for the big screen entertainment. The second day collections will drop, as Thursday saw a push due to Mahashivratri holiday and it remains to be seen if Roohi gains the momentum again on Saturday and Sunday to put up a two digit weekend total.
