4 Relaxing Detox Foot Soaks You Can Do At Home

Now more than ever people are looking to solve their skincare woes at home. While we’re stuck at home, for the most part, homemade beauty remedies have become more popular than ever. DIY fixes and beauty self-care routines work to bring in feelings of relaxation tranquillity, similar to that of spa treatment but in the comfort of your own home. While most at-home treatments tend to focus on facial skincare, another relaxing treatment involves focusing on one of the more neglected parts of your body— your feet!

If you miss your spa sessions or are just in need of some pampering, give your feet some extra TLC with a foot detox. Similar to a detox bath the idea of a foot detox is to help eliminate bodily toxins via the bottom of the feet. Of course with the added benefit of relaxation and moisturising your feet at the same time! Ready to take a load off and give your toes some much-needed attention? 1. Charcoal Mask

Activated charcoal foot masks are especially helpful with detoxing due to the simple fact that your feet truly are one of the main centres of your body. Charcoal is a well-known ingredient for drawing impurities from the body and skin. The added benefit of using it on your feet is that not only does it moisturize skin cells and stimulate your lymphatic flow and circulation but it excels at absorbing odours, thereby leaving your feet especially clean and fresh. Chances are you already have a charcoal face mask in your cabinet all you got to do is try it on your feet next time. Or you create your own mix with some activated charcoal powder and milk cream. Once it dries on the soles of your feet, just scrub it off for a softening, exfoliating effect.

2. Bentonite Clay Foot Mask

Bentonite is a type of clay used in skin detox with properties that can draw heavy metals and toxins out of the body. The use of this dates far back to ancient civilizations to detox skin and the scalp. But it’s also great for relieving dry and flaky skin. Easily found in health food stores all your need is half a cup mixed with apple cider vinegar and water combined into a thick paste. Leave it on the soles of your feet until the mixture starts to dry and crack, then scrub off.

3. Epsom Salt Soak

Epsom salt has been used for hundreds of years as a healing agent and pain reliever. Nowadays, it’s often added to hot baths and foot soaks to reduce stress. It’s often recommended to relax tired muscles, which makes it a great pick if you have sore feet. To make an Epsom salt foot soak, all you need is Epsom sea salt, few drops of your favourite essential oil and/or carrier oil. Mix this all together in a tub of water and soak away. However, the salts can cause dryness if your feet are soaked in too long, make sure to always moisturise your skin after.

4. Foot Detox Pads

Rubbing and soaking your feet are great ways to relax and give some relief to tired, aching feet as part of self-care. If you’re feeling lazy to go the scrubbing route just purchase a foot detox pad online. But you can create your own at home too. First up, you will need a cut muslin cloth to the size of the soles of your feet. Next soak this piece in any of the mixtures above, then wrap it and keep it on for about 20 minutes. Rinse your feet to wash away any remaining residue.
